Is your home really healthy?

Did you know that according to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Americans spend approximately 90% of time indoors. In the Midwest people may spend even more time inside due to drastic weather change. Also without realizing it we often bring toxins inside our homes. the following 5 tips are items to be on the lookout for and ghet rid of for a healthier home.

1. Volatile Organic Cmpounds (VOCs) are natural and man-made carbon-based chemicals that evaporate quickly at room temperature.Most of these chemicals are odorless which makes it tougher to notice them. These compounds are often found in furniture,carpeting, drapes,adhesives, cleaning products and air fresheners.
2. Asphalt sealants and pesticides used in lasscaping contain carcinogens and are often carried into the home by your shoes.
3. Water....its recommended to filter your water to remove lead,chlorine and pesticides. Don't forget to change the filter per instructions.
4. Dust mites are always a problem.Keep areas clutter free. Vinegar and water is a common cleaner for dust mites.Vaccuum or sweep floors 2 times per week.
5. Did you know the bathroom is often the unhealthiest room of your home. Keep toilet closed to prevent spreading of bacteria. Place toothbrushes in a covered holder. Also, clean toilets with vinegar.
